skylar-fieldSkylar, a trained therapy greyhound, was born in April of 2012. Bred to be a racing greyhound, he suffered career-ending injury to his right rear leg in May of 2014 at a greyhound racing track in Tijuana, Mexico.

The Greyhound Adoption Center (GAC) of San Diego rescued Skylar and several other dogs from the track. Skylar was given immediate comprehensive veterinary care including two surgeries to fix his broken leg. Skylar was healed and ready to find a new home by the Fall of 2014; he found his forever home with Eileen Hughes in Austin, Texas in January of 2015.

Skylar immediately began training for his new job as a therapy dog. His training included obedience training and the preparation to be certified by the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen program. He easily earned his CGC in May of 2015 and was subsequently certified by Divine Canines, an Austin-based therapy dog program. Skylar is also certified by Pet Partners, a national therapy dog program, and the Austin Dog Alliance.
